HCCD Report Wyoming 82001"We had 6 people show on December 20th. All of the people (including me, a nurse, and a surgeon, the rest lay people) wanted nationalized healthcare because the profit system in healthcare is driving the cost of healthcare to impossible heights. All felt that healthcare is a basic right and should be treated the same way as education in this respect and be a public system. It is also restricting what is covered. Many things are not covered or have very high co-pays so they are prohibitive even if you have "good" coverage.
Difficulty finding health insurance due to pre-existing condition, cost and emphasis on prevention were answers to Question 1 of the Participant Survey. One person wrote in that they thought that multiple insurance plans were the biggest problem.
Surveys that solicit ideas on reform, a White House Health Care summit, and Congressional hearings on C-Span were the answers to Question #2.
More info on solutions for health reform and more opportunities to discuss the issues were the answers to Question 3.
The surgeon wanted me to mention his idea of a "medical home" where all services are located in the same place - this person is a representative of a group promoting a plan for New Mexico which did not pass the legislature last year but they plan on presenting again this year, called the Health Security Act.
One woman complained about the coldness of healthcare workers and staff; how impersonal it is. We then talked about how the HMO's limit the time an HCW can spend with each patient. The volume of patients also makes it impersonal and the fact that every time people change jobs their healthcare changes so their physicians usually have to change." |
