In his weekly address, President Barack Obama said that the nation cannot lose the current opportunity to finally enact meaningful health care reform. In his weekly address on February 20, President Barack Obama called on Democratic and Republican leaders to attend next week’s health care meeting in good faith to find reforms that work for American families and small businesses. With several health insurance companies announcing steep hikes in their rates – from 10 to over 30 percent – it is clear that the status quo, while good for the insurance industry, is bad for the American people. Across the country, families have seen their premiums skyrocket in recent years, and experts predict these increases will continue. When Anthem Blue Cross announced plans to raise rates on 800,000 consumers by as much as 39 percent, Secretary Sebelius called on the company to justify the massive rate hike.
